Theme — Language
Issue # 12 was published after a hiatus of one and a half years.
We are a literature association focused on English writing in Central and Eastern Europe, where English is not at all a native language. That’s why we chose “Language” as our theme. It’s just one word, but it allows for endless interpretation.
In this issue of Panel Magazine, we travel to the home of a Hungarian family in America, clinging not just to their language, but the underlying culture too. We then head to Germany, where a Romanian woman is anxiously vying for a job, and the resulting place in society. An ensuing hop into the future shows us how the Hungarian language will evolve—and how vehemently Hungarians will defend it. There are essays discussing the obscured beauty of learning new languages. Poems provide with new perspectives on the depth of words. Stunning pictures and photos give representation for that which has no words.
